Minutes of the Chonburi Thailand Branch General Meeting Friday 15th January
The Meeting opened with the Act of Remembrance read by the Chairman
Chairman’s opening Address
The chairman welcomed all to the meeting and commented that it was nice to see so many new faces (this of course was nothing to do with the free buffet and bar after!) He informed the meeting that his end of year report had been published in all the local papers and was available to view on our website; he mention the fact that the Secretary had been updating the website lately and it was now full of useful links.
He informed the meeting that our Welfare Chairman had become a Buddhist Monk for 3 months and although he may not be available the Abbot had succeeded where all else had failed and Glenn had now had his hair cut.
Minutes of the previous meeting
It was proposed by Mr. R Holmes and seconded by Mr. R Knowles;
That the minutes of the previous meeting be passed – Carried
Propositions
Nil
Matters arising from the previous meeting
The Chairman informed the meeting that we had hoped to have 3 more trained caseworkers; this did not happen due to what can only be described as failings from Head Office Training Dept who appear to have little or no interest in training overseas branches.
An inscribed plaque was purchased for our outgoing Chairman and this was presented to him by Mr. R Myers on behalf of the Branch.
Additions to the agenda
Nil
Secretary’s Report
Membership; On membership renewal total members stood at 105, of these 33 did not renew and there cards have now been returned to London. That left us with 72 members however due to our recruiting drive in July and August we recruited a further 38 new members in the Pattaya area, 31 in Chiang Mai and 11 in Korat giving us a total of 152 members with a number of applications pending.
Chiang Mai members are at present in the process of transferring their membership cards to the new Chiang Mai Sub Branch
Correspondence; We have received our normal routine letters from Head Office that appear on the notice board, we have also received the official receipt for the Poppy Appeal and also an Email warning us about property fraud in the UK
We received a letter of thanks from Mr. Frank Bremner who was hospitalised whilst on holiday in Thailand and being a former member of the Royal Artillery fell under our wing, he wished me to thank all members for the outstanding work they do with a special thank you going to fellow Artilleryman Buddy Ditchburn for cheering him up.
Frank is now recovering in hospital in the UK.
Treasurers Report
The treasurer informed the meeting that our balance stood at 198,873 Baht and that the only major movements within the accounts were the Poppy Appeal and the part purchase (as agreed) of a new computer and software at a cost of 24,600 Baht.
Poppy Appeal Report
The Poppy Appeal organiser informed the meeting that we raised a total of 196,570 Baht, 126,570 Baht had been returned to Head Office and 70,000 had been retained for welfare work here. He thanked all for their continuing help.
Welfare Report
In the absence of the Welfare Chairman the Secretary informed the meeting that we had 2 ongoing cases and another 4 that had literally just been forwarded from London and were being looked into.
It was felt that we were not having Welfare Committee Meetings as we should be and we would endeavor to have them monthly and when needed.
Other Business
The Chairman informed the meeting that the Secretary had produced a personnel information form that members if they wish could complete and place in a signed sealed envelope. It would then be placed in our safe and only opened on your request, if you are hospitalised and incapacitated or on your death.
This could greatly help those who are trying to help you, should you be in need.
He showed a number of new plaques that had been purchased by the President for us to award to those who had helped the Legion.
Finally he reminded all those who were travelling to the River Kwai for ANZAC Day that the Secretary had already paid for the rooms and they should in turn pay him.
Next Meeting
To avoid the madness of April and Songkran it was decided to hold the next meeting at 4pm on Friday 14th May at Tropical Bert’s.
Closing Address
The Chairman once again thanked all for attending, he reminded the meeting that the Social Secretary had arranged a Day at the Races on Sunday and a Ten Pin Bowling night next month, all details are on the board. Anyone having any ideas for social events please contact Keith Rhodes.
There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting.
